All systems go for Sarangani’s 10th foundation anniversary
Provincial Information Office, 15 November 2002

ALABEL, Sarangani -- All systems go for the festive celebration of Sarangani’s 10th Foundation Anniversary, said Provincial Tourism chairperson Eleanor Saguiguit.

Saguiguit said the different committees have been given enough time to comply with the deadlines and have now submitted their plan of activities for the anniversary celebration which will start on November 23 to 28.

Gov. Miguel Escobar, in a management committee meeting yesterday, urged all committee members to actively get involved and contribute their share to make the anniversary celebration memorable for all.

“Let us all work together so we could proudly showcase in this anniversary a unique Sarangan craftsmanship,” he said.

The Practical Shooting Competition (the first Governor’s Cup) on the 23rd is expected to set the festive mood of the celebration together with the Governor’s Ball and Barn Dance in the evening.

On the 24th the pulse raising Mountain Bike Challenge will try the racing prowess of bicycle fanatics as well as the fisherfolks for the Lumbanka competitions. Other activities such as the Marc Velasco Concert, the Ethno Jam by Joey Ayala, the Aquaculture Expo, among others, have also been lined up to add spice to the week-long celebration.

Saguiguit believes all activities are worth watching for but added, however, the First MunahTo Festival and the launching of WOW Sarangani on November 25, the Lechon Fest and the Fyu Kura (parade of dressed horses) on the 28th would serve as the key attractions of the event.

Invited guest of honor Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has yet to confirm her presence during the culmination on the 28th, said Provincial Administrator Perla Maglinte.

The Council also announced other invited renowned personalities which include Senator Noli de Castro, Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes, Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon, Trade and Industry Secretary Mar Roxas, Agriculture Secretary Leonardo Montemayor, Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza, Sarangani Lone District Rep. Erwin Chiongbian and wife Nancy, Congressman Miguel Zubiri, former Gov. Priscilla Chiongbian, Mrs. Gina de Venecia, singer Marc Velasco and actor Eddie Garcia. (PIO- Sarangani)
