ALABEL, Sarangani
-- Rejoicing over a twin victory, this capital town proved
its worth as its two candidates reaped exclusively the
most coveted titles of “Mutya ng Sarangani and Mutya ng
Turismo 2002.”
Eighteen-year old
Joyce Formoso and 16-year old Gaydra Rama, who stand 5’5”
and 5’6”, respectively, were crowned as Mutya ng
Sarangani and Mutya ng Turismo during the pageant night on
November 27.
Formoso and Rama
said they were happy to win the titles and vowed to
portray their roles in helping promote Sarangani to be a
premier investment and tourism location in Mindanao.
They also promised
to lead the youth by good example. Both like to hang out
with friends, surf the Internet, and dislike people who
are boastful and hypocrites.
“Aside from
gaining more friends, this exposure would surely enhance
my self-confidence as I interact with other candidates,”
Formoso said.
Formoso is taking
up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the Notre Dame of
Dadiangas College while Rama is a senior student at the
Mindanao State University.
The winning circle
also includes first runner up Twilight Vallinas from the
municipality of Malapatan who aspires to become an
international model.
Although they
failed to get the most coveted titles, second and third
runners up Merydel Rose Murallon of Kiamba and Ma. Cecilia
Torres of Glan believed that winning more friends during
the contest was just as important as winning the titles.
“It helps develop our self-confidence and sportsmanship,”
Torres said.
Other candidates to
the pageant were Margie Liza Llego and Ana Andrea Alviar,
Maasim; Loque Lyn Ladaran, Malapatan; Dyna Dee Conejos and
Sheila Mae Gabilo, Maitum; Jennifer Lee Prowell and
Roxanne Ugay, Malungon; Darlene Tan, Glan; and Esperanza
Santillana, Kiamba.
Alabel also won
major awards in other competitions staged for this year’s
10th
Foundation Anniversary celebration by earning 2nd place in
cheer dancing, himig Sarangan chorale contest,
singing for peace, fyu kura; and florikultura; third in
street dancing and photo contest; and champion in mountain
bike challenge (touring category).
